If your mental model of Bedrock is "Claude, Llama, and Amazon's models," you're missing a catalog of 100+ additional models living one level below what everyone sees first.
Amazon Bedrock Marketplace is a centralized hub for discovering, testing, and deploying foundation models, giving developers and organizations access to an extensive catalog of more than 100 popular, emerging, and specialized foundation models -- well beyond the five third-party families that appear in the main catalog (Llama, Mistral, Cohere, and Amazon's own models).
As a new development in April 2026, OpenAI's models are now included inside Bedrock's Marketplace. OpenAI's frontier models -- GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, and Codex -- reached general availability on June 1, 2026, with GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna arriving later, on July 13. It's a significant shift: until recently, using GPT within an AWS architecture required leaving Bedrock entirely.
Beyond the big names, the Marketplace includes NVIDIA Nemotron-4 NIM microservices -- models specifically optimized for efficient inference on NVIDIA GPUs -- and dozens of domain- or language-specific specialized models that never show up in general "best LLM" comparisons, but that can outperform a generic model for a very specific task.
Unlike "core" models (which activate directly), many Marketplace models require a subscription through a Private Offer -- an extra procurement step worth planning ahead if your architecture depends on a specific Marketplace third-party model, since approval time may not be immediate.
Stepping outside the standard catalog into the Marketplace makes sense once you've identified a very specific need -- an uncommon language, a highly specialized technical domain, a particular inference architecture -- that none of the "core" models cover well. For 90% of general enterprise use cases, the core catalog (Claude, Llama, Nova) remains the right starting point, with the Marketplace as a niche option when needed.
